The modern Fire and Rescue Service has had to adapt to changes in society. The priority continues to be the safety of the community. The Fire Department has to be ready to respond to new threats and meet its responsibility to protect life and preserve property.

There have been many advances in fire alarm technology. This has reduced the number of serious fire incidents. A majority of emergency fire calls are now false alarms or hoaxes.

Most accidents still happen in the home. The Fire Department works with other agencies to educate the community on safety issues. Campaigns cover issues such as fireworks, bonfire, barbecue and candle safety.
