Question: In a democracy, a person elected to office has to base his or her decisions about laws and policies on one of two factors. First, some office holders try to be sure that they vote for laws and policies that the majority of their constituency advocates. Second, however, are those office-holders who vote according to what they believe will be for the "common good," regardless of the preferences of their constituency. If you were to hold office as a representative of the people in a democratic government, which of these two motivations would you choose? Why? {In your answer you should assume that each type of office holder honestly and sincerely wants to serve their constituents.}
