First, some office holders try to be sure that they vote for laws and policies that the majority of their constituency advocates. Second, however, are those office-holders who vote according to what they believe will be for the "common good," regardless of the preferences of their constituency. If you were to hold office as a representative of the people in a democratic government, which of these two motivations would you choose?
