Topic: Race, Class, Gender, and Voting Rights

Question: Which kind of discrimination-gender discrimination, racial discrimination, or class discrimination (against poorer or landless people)-has been the biggest barrier to voting rights from the founding of the nation to the present?

Formulate a clear thesis statement in which you state up front whether you think gender discrimination, racial discrimination, or class discrimination was the biggest barrier to voting rights, and why you are taking this stance (be as specific as possible). Note: It is acceptable to take a "middle-of-the-road" stance in which you argue that two or all three types of discrimination were equally large obstacles so
long as you make a convincing argument with solid evidence.

Be sure to include examples from across entire time period that we covered in this unit, from the early United States to the recent past (2000s).

Use specific examples from the primary source documents from Unit 3 (Documents #61 - 88 in the HST 202 Primary Source Reader) to support your points. You must use at least 7 different primary source documents in your answer. You may also use our free online textbook, the American Yawp, and any other web readings or documentary films that we encountered in class, but these do not count toward the 7 different primary source documents.
