Problem
Situation: You have been looking for a part-time job, and you have two opportunities: One is for the Foundation, which raises money for and supports your college. The other is a night job (6:00-11:00 p.m., four or five rotating nights a week) as the desk clerk at a local inn that is relatively inexpensive. With both jobs, you could work 20 to 30 hours per week. With the Foundation, you could work around your class schedule.
Facts: The Foundation duties include many that you are or will be studying-marketing, finance, accounting, management, and office technology. You would be able to interact with donors and board members who generally are business executives. The inn job duties include customer service skills, telephone skills, and basic office skills. The inn job pays $1 more per hour than the Foundation job. Before you make your decision, search for information about desk clerk jobs in hotels and inns and about jobs in educational-type foundations.
