Case Study: As we noted in Week 3, the debate over the content of the curriculum-in particular thebalance between required and elective courses-has been going on for nearly twocenturies. At the heart, these debates are about the academic benefits of a commoncurricular experience versus encouraging student motivation through the choice ofcourses.
