Assignment: Developing Your Ideas
Previously, you created an outline for a UWA essay in response to the following prompt:
According to Ellen DeGeneres-comedian, actor, and talk show host-"When you take risks, you learn that there will be times when you succeed and there will be times when you fail, and both are equally important." Do you agree or disagree?
wrote an introduction and a conclusion based on your outline from Week 4.
For this week's assignment, you will return to the outline you created in Week 4 as a basis for writing the essay's body paragraphs. Remember, there is no magic number when it comes to body paragraphs in personal essays. However, given the scope of the UWA, you'll want to aim for 2 to 4 body paragraphs.
outline should already include a short version or summary of the body paragraphs. For this assignment, you will expand these ideas into fully developed paragraphs as if you were writing an essay.
Begin this assignment by writing your thesis, which identifies your topic and controlling idea. Look back at your introduction to see the original version of your thesis, which you may or may not want to revise based on discussions we've had since then. Then, as you write your body paragraphs, remember that they make up the bulk of your essay and that they all need to relate back to your thesis. Also, pay careful attention to opportunities to transition your thoughts by using some of the techniques you learned this week.
