Problem: A 72-year-old Caucasian Vietnam veteran is interviewed for intake at the local VA clinic. He has been disconnected from care for about ten years. He suffers from PTSD which stems from his exposure to combat during the war. He was previously controlled with medications and support groups, but was disconnected from the VA when he lost his job ten years ago. After losing his job, he moved to Florida where it was warmer. He has a history of attempted suicide by intentional drug overdose, but was rushed to the hospital by a friend. He is currently homeless, smoking cigarettes, and has not seen a doctor in 10 years. He has started feeling depressed, suffering from flashbacks and anhedonia, and so sought help. He is not religious and has no social support. His family cannot be contacted. He does not own any firearms or weapons. He is tearful and spontaneously cries in front of you. His vitals are normal and his physical is benign.
