Case Study
Review your experiences with the simulation in the practice rounds. Read the relevant chapters in the textbook. Then read the article: Devinney, T. (2009). Is the Socially Responsible Corporation a Myth? The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of Corporate Social Responsibility. Academy of Management Perspectives 23, 44-56. On that basis:
1. Draw a mind-map which explores the issues of corporate responsibility for your simulated company. Start with your stakeholder mind-map and expand it through the CSR issues that apply to specific stakeholders. Pay attention to the specific details of in terms of laws, ecological responsibility, consumer needs, economic outcomes, or other factors you believe represent CSR. (this may require some imagination. Refer to stakeholder mind-map for clues.)(Refer to the mind-mapping guidelines and information sources.)
2. Identify what you think is a critical component of your simulation company's corporate social responsibility (an item from your mind-map). (Each team member MUST choose a different component.)
3. Find a high quality academic source (use the UCW library) that helps you understand that component's strategic value and impact.
4. Briefly summarize the academic source in your own words. (maximum of 100 words)
5. Explain the relevance of your academic source to your case. (maximum of 100 words)
6. Develop a strategic recommendation for your simulation company based on your analysis and reading. A good strategic recommendation explains how your simulation results could be improved by a more effective application of the resources of your component. Ensure you frame your recommendation in terms of corporate social responsibility. (maximum of 150 words)
7. Prepare a report as follows using Microsoft Word or with Word .doc or .docx output, or .rtf output or other output acceptable to Turnitin (not .pdf):
• Cover page in APA style.
• Mind-map (could be a drawing, a jpeg from a photograph, or an insert from mind-mapping software (for exampleCoogle). Ensure the details of the mind-map are legible in your final document.
• A summary of the source. Correctly cite your work in APA style (there are multiple ways to do this. Choose the most appropriate.)
• An explanation of how the source assists your understanding.
• Your recommendation.
• A reference section which includes all works cited.
• Use APA essay style to organize the appearance of your report (margins, font, headings, etc.)
