The founder and CEO of Acme Investments, Able Baker, cut her own compensation to ensure all employees at the company made at least $70,000 per year. Instead of earning $1.0 Million, she also makes $70,000. Her action resulted in 50 of the 100 Acme employees getting a raise. She was motivated by a desire to do her part to reduce income inequality and the belief, gained from research she read, that $70,000 is a living wage and improves people's quality of life. Baker's actions were not without criticism. She was told by a competitor that if she followed the compensation practices of most other investment companies, she would soon be a billionaire. The competitor commented that as a billionaire, Baker could do even more good. Baker stated that she does not think that the world needs another billionaire philanthropist because she does not think that is working out very well for the world.
