Unit II can be broken down into three very large and significant topics:

1. The outbreak of the Great Depression which crippled the nation and the subsequent New Deal which reshaped the people's relationship with the federal government.

2. The outbreak of the Second World War and America's participation as the "Great Arsenal of Democracy" which not only vanquished 20th century fascism but the Great Depression as well.

3. The outbreak of the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union which fueled a period of unprecedented economic growth while revealing many societal weaknesses in the promotion of Democracy abroad.

Imagine being asked to rank these subjects in order of importance on shaping modern America.
