-- While reading the Lead up 5-7 "Know when to push and when to back off", I read many interesting characteristics. But when I read the first point " do I know something my boss doesn't but needs to", it instantly made me think of the show Gray's Anatomy. As a big Gray's Anatomy fan, it automatically reminded me of Derek Shepherd's situation with his higher boss, the chief of surgery Richard Webber, and how the board of directors went straight to Dr. Shepherd about taking Dr. Webber's chiefs position without letting or informing Dr. Webber about the change. Dr. Shepherd went on for about 2 episodes or so letting his chief know that the board of directors wanted to replace him and warned the chief about this situation even when the board of directors specifically told Derek not to. Dereck decided to let the chief know as he wanted to give the chief time to organize and prepare how he was going to handle the situation in advance. There was a time when the chief was not going to do anything but then found a solution into keeping his position. Knowing something your boss doesn't can put the person in an odd situation as they won't know if they should tell their higher boss or not and how that would further affect their professional relationship. As a leader, having employees that respect you enough to tell you what is going on is also beneficial to them but you could also have the risk of employees not telling you what you need to know which can also affect your work environment and your professional relationship.
