Directors around the country report unpleasant physical symptoms like shortness of breath, sweaty palms, stomach butterflies, and stress headaches when asked to picture direct confrontation. Seventy percent of women and 44 percent of men tend to take things personally, seek to keep the peace, and avoid conflict. For the majority of early childhood leaders, reflective supervision's nurturing process flows naturally. Affirming comes more easily than confronting.
