It is a self-assessment. To be clear, a self-assessment is the process of looking at oneself in order to assess aspects that are important to one's identity. This is a good tool for you to become clear on what motivates you, what drives you, how your work aligns with your personal values, where you have strengths, and where you could use some development. Self-assessments are an important tool in Performance Management Systems.

Your development plan should focus on the following three career competencies:

Reflective. It is essential to have career awareness to combine personal reflections with your professional career. Reflecting on motivation involves considering your values, passions, and inspirations about your career. It is also about reflecting on your qualities related to your career's strengths, shortcomings, and skills.

Communicative. As you advance your career, it is vital to effectively communicate with others to improve your chances of success, including networking and self-profiling. Networking refers to the awareness of your network's presence and professional value and the ability to expand this network for career-related purposes. In contrast, self-profiling refers to presenting and communicating your personal knowledge, abilities, and skills to individuals inside and outside your organization.

Behavioural. You can shape your career by taking action and being proactive. You can do this through work exploration and career control. Work exploration refers to actively exploring and searching for work-related and career-related opportunities inside and outside of your organization. Career control refers to actively influencing your career's learning and work processes by setting goals and planning how to reach these goals.

Consider these competencies concerning your career path. Where do you stand regarding reflective, communicative, and behavioural career competencies?

Instructions

For each competency, write a brief, one-paragraph (approximately 150 words) self-assessment.
For each competency, create one behavioural goal that you commit to doing in the next six months. Use the SMART model:
Specific - is your action explicit?
Measurable - is your action tangible? Could someone see you do the activity?
Attainable - is your goal realistic and achievable?
Relevant - are the activities related to the competency?
Timely - by when or how often will you do the action?
Each SMART goal can be written as one statement. For example, "within six months, I will successfully complete the requirements for the Human Resources Management Certificate at SFU and qualify to apply for the CPHR Candidate designation." Please note that this is just an example and you are expected to create your own goals for the assignment.
