When is it okay to be different and when should you abide by foreign country rules and norms? Moral gray areas, and when can you not cross these areas?

Americans do not negotiate tax, it is concerning to Americans. But they want a fair tax bill, they paid fairly. Italians do not pay fairly, it is common practice to underestimate and then negotiate.

Cultural norms, to follow or not? How will they react back in the US? Your own career is important.

The American general manager of the bank, who was on his first overseas assignment, refused advice by local lawyers and tax accountants both from branches of US companies to file Italian style, to underestimate.

He considered it dishonest and because it was inconsistent with the practices of his parent company in the United States.

He ignored advice to hire a commercialista and an invitation to discuss by the Italian tax authorities. The Italian tax authorities assumed that the Americans filed Italian-style. They received 3 notices.
