Case: I believe the meaning of the first quote is that if we fail to teach our history to the public, then everything that occurred would've been for nothing. As the public, we must use the past to learn from our mistakes. A lesson that can be taken from this quote is that it's essential to teach our past so we can build a better future. I believe that the meaning of the first quote (second section) is that there was never a time when women answered to men. Everyone wants to think that men have always been superior to women, but where would men be without women? A lesson that can be taken from this quote is that never underestimate what women can do without men. Even up to this today, I've witnessed men are not able to make decisions without consulting their wives. I believe the meaning of the first quote (third section) is that there will always be room for change. If we look at the past, we will find endless mistakes. A lesson that can be taken from this quote is that you can't make a difference if you don't make an effort.
In the second paragraph, the writers try to convince the reader that slavery wasn't as "bad" as they say. They have a quote from some enslaved people saying that enslavers "treated them kindly." It sounds like they're trying to oppress slavery by saying how enslavers provided food and clothing. Any form of slavery was and is wrong. The writer is trying to make the perspective that although enslaved people were neglected, separated, and tortured, at least they were provided with food and clothes. They failed to talk about all the mistreatment and depression enslaved people went through. Nothing can justify slavery, not even kindness from enslavers.
Finally, history can be defined as information and lessons gained from past events.
