Discussion Post
Part I
Introduction: In the module discussion, you identified a method of prevention for each prevention tier (primary, secondary, and tertiary). You were provided information regarding how public health assesses each the effectiveness of a prevention method. This assessment can be economic or in terms of morbidity or mortality. A substantive initial post answers the question presented completely and/or asks a thoughtful question pertaining to the topic. Be sure your post is unique. Do not repeat what other students have said.
Part II
Introduction: You explored what Community Health Improvement Plans (CHIPs) and Community Health Assessments (CHAs) look like in the field. You also explored some guidance provided by professional organizations such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Association of City and County Health Officials (NACCHO). The next step is to evaluate what your recommendations have been for your portfolio project and compare that to what your community is doing to address the issue.
Initial Post: Find your community's state or county County Health Assessment (CHA) and Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). You can do this by typing your county name along with the search terms with Community Health Assessment or Community Health Improvement plan. What were similarities between your critical thinking portfolio assignment and your community's CHIP and CHA. Did you identify similar issues and make similar recommendations?
Part III
Introduction: You were introduced to two different and distinct ethical frameworks which are the deontological and utilitarian arguments. Throughout the course, you have been exposed to the public health approach through surveillance, education, regulation/law, and treatment. Some of these practices are distinctly different from the clinical approach and others are similar. Each approach could be in direct opposition to either the deontological or the utilitarian frameworks.
Initial Post: Consider the deontological argument and the utilitarian arguments presented in the required readings. Now consider your portfolio project. Are there any conflicts between either of the ethical schools of thought with regards to your planned interventions?
