Question: Suppose you are a business analyst working for a university. You recently found out that the university you work for sells students information to third party businesses (e.g. educational agency, professional year providers). This practice is legal as in students' enrolment agreement, students have agreed for the university to share their information with third parties. Of courses, few students would actually read the fine print and even if they do not agree they have no choice. However, you fundamentally believe that this practice is not ethical, and you are inclined to report this university to the media. To make things more complicated, the following factors also come into play:
You receive a very handsome salary from the university (around 180K a year), and you have just purchased a house with mortgage. If you report the university to media, you will definitely lose your job.
If you report the university to media, the university may be forced to shut down, and the over 1000 staff will lose their jobs. Some of them may not be able to easily find another job.
What you would do in this scenario and why? Write a short essay of no more than 300 words to explain and argue your position in this matter.
Post your writing on Module 2.2 Ethical dilemma I discussion forum. Read and debate other students' answers. If you do not agree with their views, point out their logical flaws and provide constructive comments on their writings.
