Discussion Post: Health Safety and Well Being

Providing children with environments that are high quality includes being aware of health and safety issues throughout the indoor and outdoor learning environments. This can include enforcing policies that impact the health, safety, and well-being of the children in your classroom. For this discussion, you are going to reflect on a situation, and based on your ethical responsibilities share with your peers how you would handle it. Use the guidelines in Chapter 1 to help you reflect on what you would do in this situation.

A single mom drops off her 4-year-old child with you after he has been out of school for 2 days with a fever, constant runny nose, and cough. The mother reports that the child is feeling much better and that her boss has informed her that she will lose her job if she misses any more work this month. By 10:00 am.am., the child is running a fever of 101, coughing continuously, and complaining of a headache. He goes to the library corner and falls asleep. You do not have a school nurse in your program.
