Question: Recently, Microsoft filed a patent application for a "meeting insight computing system" that would monitor body language, facial expressions, and other features of participants to assign a "quality score" to workplace meetings. According to the patent filing, the system could be applied to in-person and remote meetings. Microsoft also introduced a "Productivity Score" that allows organizations to monitor employees' use of Microsoft products. After public outrage, Microsoft backtracked and eliminated the individualized tracking feature. Employee surveillance rapidly increased with the transition to remote work after Covid-19. Many companies with onsite employees have implemented employee surveillance systems, justifying surveillance under the guise of public health considerations.

Based on what you learned, is this type of employee surveillance legal? Discuss law that supports your answer.
