Assignment: Policy
Write a 700 to 1,050 words report in which you explain how you will apply evaluation strategies to evaluate your selected criminal justice program. The report will be shared with your supervisor, who wants to justify the evaluation to key decision-makers and stakeholders.
Use the following 4 headings in your report and address the following topics in your report:
I. Program Analysis
1. Identify and provide a link to the criminal justice program you researched.
2. Briefly describe the criminal justice program you selected in the Week 1 Assessment Preparation task.
3. Indicate whether the program is a local, state, or federal program.
4. Explain the organization's mission.
5. Explain the goals/objectives of the program.
6. Explain a strategy and/or activity of the program. Include details to explain how the strategy or activity supports program goals.
II. Policy Analysis
1. Identify and provide a link to the criminal justice policy you selected and researched in the Week 1 Assessment Preparation task.
2. Summarize the policy and identify whether it is applicable at the local-, state-, or federal-government level.
3. Include relevant details about the legal statute or law the policy is aligned to.
4. Explain how the program fulfills the mandate(s) of the policy.
III. Your Evaluation Model
1. Identify the purpose of your evaluation.
2. Identify which evaluation model (e.g., embedded evaluation model, SARA model) is most appropriate for your proposed evaluation. Justify your choice.
Evaluation Questions
Select 2 or 3 evaluation questions you would like to answer through your evaluation. Justify your selection.
Create a 1,050 to 1,400 words proposal in which you present your plan for a program evaluation for your selected criminal justice program. Develop your proposal from the perspective of a criminal justice professional proposing an evaluation plan and strategies to a supervisor.
Use the following headings in your proposal and address the following prompts:
1. Program Evaluation Planning: Model and Methods Selection
2. Briefly summarize the criminal justice program (e.g., mission, goals, objectives) you selected in Week 1.
3. Explain which program evaluation model (i.e., embedded evaluation model or the SARA model) you will use to conduct the evaluation. Justify your choice by explaining why the model is most suitable for the program evaluation.
4. Explain the program evaluation method(s) (e.g., formative, summative, qualitative, quantitative, mixed method) you will use to analyze the program. Justify your choice by explaining why your selected method is most suitable for the program evaluation.
Program Evaluation Planning: Evaluation Questions Creation
Create 2 or 3 evaluation questions you intend to answer as a result of conducting the program evaluation. Provide rationale for each question.
Program Evaluation Planning: Survey Tool Creation
Design a 3 or 4 question survey to collect data related to the evaluation questions you created. Note: Refer to Exhibit III-4, "Tips for Developing Surveys and Survey Questions," on p. 62 of "Measuring Excellence: Planning and Managing Evaluations of Law Enforcement Initiatives" from the U.S. Department of Justice - Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS).

2. Explain what you hope to discover as a result of administering the survey.
3. Identify challenges you may face in conducting the survey or reviewing survey results.
4. Policy Evaluation Explanation
5. Briefly summarize the criminal justice policy that you selected in Week 1 that is related to the program outcomes. Explain how research or analysis of your selected criminal justice policy is related to your proposed program evaluation.
