Question: You have started a quality improvement project for your unit at the facility where you are employed. After beginning to gather data, you realize there would be value in further evaluating the data being collected and adding additional elements to the project. What would your next step be? Write-up your amended project proposal and submit it to the facility Institution Review Board (IRB) before continuing to collect data. Continue with your project because Quality Improvement (QI) projects have exempt status. Request approval from your immediate supervisor to amend the Quality Improvement Plan. Add the additional elements and continue to collect data as a future research project.
