Below is a flow cytometry analysis of 3 cell surface proteins from an 18 year old patient suffering from chest pains, weakness and very dark urine (C & D) and a healthy 18 year old control (A&B). The patient reports having previous attacks of similar symptoms, but never this severe. Before this particular event he was at football practice on a very hot day. A complete red blood cell count shows a significantly reduced number of RBCs and hemoglobin in his urine. Flow cytometry of his neutrophils reveals the following data:

Given his flow cytometry results, what is a reasonable hypothesis for why his RBC count is low and the hemoglobin is in his urine?
