You are the HR manager in a health organization. An employee comes to you and complains that they do not understand why one of their colleagues received a promotion that they had applied for. They describe all the reasons they feel this is unfair including how they feel they have achieved all of their performance goals for the year, have a perfect attendance record, and have been repeatedly told by their supervisor that they are doing an exemplary job. They also say they think it's because they are female and the individual that received the promotion is male. They demand that you look into the situation otherwise they are going to file a gender discrimination complaint. What would you say to the employee and what actions do you think would be appropriate to take in this situation?
