Case Study: One crucial type of substance abuse prevention involves those who have been in treatment and are trying to avoid relapsing or returning to their previously abusive behavior. Think about the messages these people receive daily from public media (such as television, movies, newspapers, and the web) and other individuals. Which messages support relapse prevention, and which tend to encourage relapse? If possible, have a conversation with a friend, a family member, a relative, or a classmate who has been in treatment for substance abuse and has had to deal with the problem of relapse prevention. Ask what was helpful for them and what made it more challenging to avoid substance abuse.

Question: What would you do if one of your friends/family members/relatives/classmates were using harmful/illicit drugs? What would you tell them to convince them to stop? What are some other methods you could use to help them stop?
