Question - The engineering department has developed a new product, but top management will not approve it for production because of its high break-even point. David, the lead engineer, knows it is a good product and tries to reduce the fixed costs in his proposal. From the accounting department, he has asked you to find ways to credibly misstate the estimated fixed costs that an objective person would not estimate.

David believes that once the new product becomes successful, it will benefit the shareholders. Is David's idea ethical? Is it ethical for you to help him? If it does become successful, what would it have hurt to fudge the numbers to get it started?
