A collector brings home two orchids with different flower coloration and breeds them in the greenhouse by taking the pollen from one and introducing it to the flowers (without pollen) in the other.

He plants the seeds and sees that 50% of the offspring show dark pink in the flowers and 50% are white.

What can he say about the genotypes of the parent orchids if the inheritance of flower color is Mendelian (one flower color is dominant over the other due to a single gene)?

What would he do next to find out which allele is dominant?
