A nurse stops a student nurse from giving a patient intravenous (IV) distilled water instead of normal saline or 0.9% NaCl as ordered by the physician. If the student nurse had given the distilled water, what would have happened to the patient's red blood cells? Another student nurse is giving a patient with low sodium 3% NaCl IV as ordered by their physician, what could happen to this patient's red blood cells if this is given too fast?
