What would Celie (from The Color Purple) have to say about, for example, the institution of marriage or gender discrimination? For this final, creative option, your goal will be to partner with one of the protagonists from the course readings and write a "manifesto" (i.e., "a declaration of principles") on a question or topic central to that character's existence.

Identify a contemporary "target" for the manifesto. Let your chosen character determine the basic topic, question, or theme of the manifesto. A few suggestions are offered above, but you need not pursue any of those issues. It is important to choose a target for the manifesto (e.g., political, social, personal, etc.) that truly interests you.
Map the voice of literary protest. Selectively draw upon the words, thoughts, ideas, practices, experiences, and actions of your chosen character-all things that clearly reflect the voice of protest and/or rebellion within that character.
Inter-weave your own words with those of your chosen character. Remember, the goal of this assignment option is to write "with" a character from the course readings. You are not being asked to write "about" that character, as if you were writing an essay on that character or developing a character sketch. Instead, view yourself as being in true collaboration with your chosen character-some things they contribute to the manifesto; other things you contribute. Your manifesto, in the end, will seamlessly blend their voice with your own in the creation of a radical statement of principles.
Be creative in your presentation. The title of this option is "Multi-Media Manifesto." So rather than just being a written text, give your work a multi-media component. Go beyond just words, by including, for example, images, music/sound, drawings, clip art, etc., designed to creatively enhance the voice of your manifesto. You might consider making this a spoken word exercise, by turning your manifesto into a YouTube video (and including media additional to that video.
