Assignment:
There are 2 female ducks of the same species, Duck A and Duck B. Both ducks have 12 egg clutches produced at the same time and they commenced incubation at the same time. Duck A had enough body reserves that she does not have to leave her nest during the 28-day incubation period. Duck B had one third as much body reserves as Duck A, and will have to leave the nest to get food during the incubation period.
1. Do you expect the eggs from Duck A's clutch to hatch at the same time as those from Duck B's clutch (explain your answer)
2. If we break the incubation period into thirds (early, middle and late incubation periods) describe the relative time spent away from the nest foraging for food for Duck B (explain your answer)
3. All 12 eggs in each clutch were fertile and Duck A has 12 healthy hatchlings. Do you expect the chance that Duck B will produce 12 hatchlings to be equal to that of Duck A (explain your answer)
4. If Duck B did have more mortality of embryos during incubation than Duck A what would be the peak time for this embryo mortality (explain your answer)
