You have recently reviewed a bone marrow specimen from a 65-year-old man with persistent cytopenias, which showed vacuolated erythroid and myeloid precursors and small, hypolobated megakaryocytes. On review of the medical record, you find that the patient has also been seen by a rheumatologist and dermatologist for recurrent arthritis and a skin rash, respectively. There is no evidence of alcohol abuse. Copper and zinc levels were normal. What would be the next step in management?
