The period of an electrocardiogram (EKG) signal can vary from 20 beats per minute (bpm) to several hundred bpm. What would be the minimum sample rate needed to adequately acquire an EKG signal? Note that this problem is not as simple as it appears to be, because while the fundamental frequency may be relatively low, artifacts in the EKG may be at frequencies several times the fundamental frequency. In order to solve this problem, you must do a little research on EKG spectra to determine what the highest frequency is and what typical sample rates are for EKG acquisition.
