Build a 1Gbps link as long as possible without regeneration. Assume a transmitter power of 1mW and a receiver sensitivity of -30dBm for a BER of 10^(-9). The dispersion at 1.5 micron is 20 ps/km.nm, and the attenuation is 0.25 dB/km. What would be the maximum length if you choose (1) a wavelength of 1.5 micron and single-mode, GRIN, or step-index multimode fiber or (2) you choose a wavelength of 1.3 micron? Assume that the bandwidth of the transmitted signal is about 1 GHz.
