CASE STUDY
Discrimination at Fly High Company
On March 15, 2001 a batch of 32 female workers working at Fly High Company filed a discrimination lawsuit against the company. The complainants claimed that they were affected by the discriminatory practices of Fly High. These female complainants represented almost 8,000 other women employees of Fly High located in four Asian countries.
In response to the accusations presented by its female employees, Fly High Company stated that the charges regarding unfair treatment and reprisal were unfounded and untrue. Fly High declared that for quite some time, it had sound and stable anti- discrimination rules and kept those rules by guaranteeing equality and fairness to each employee regardless of origin and sex.
Although Fly High attempted to safeguard itself by saying that it did not, in any circumstances, discriminate against its workers, an investigation showed that the minority of employees including women employees actually experienced unfair treatment.
Questions for Discussion:
1. In your opinion, what would be the effects of such accusations to the reputation and long-run performance of Fly High Company?
2. What strategies would you suggest to Fly High Company to stop discrimination in the workplace?
