Problem: "Parents present in clinic today with their 15-month-old son, Michael. The parents are here for follow up from the ER where the patient was treated last week after they called 911 to their home. They provide a history that the patient was sitting quietly in his mother's lap when he had an event they describe "jerking violently" in his upper and lower extremities. This lasted approximately 1 minute before resolving spontaneously. What elements of the HPI, past medical history, and family history may help differentiate between the different types of seizures?
