Assignment: Articulated Learning (AL) Essay Module
Kolb's Experiential Learning Cycle theorizes that active/experiential learning is seen when a person processes through a cycle of four stages:
I. concrete experiences
II. reviewing and reflecting on the experience
III. concluding and learning from the experience
IV. Active experimentation or trying the knowledge in other situations.
Kolb (1974) views learning as an integrated process with each stage being mutually supportive of and feeding into the next.
Ash and Clayton (2016) emphasized the Articulated Learning steps support you in re-thinking and extending your thinking to create a more meaningful and fully thought out reflexive essay by considering, in particular, how the learning has value beyond the context of the specific event (Module 3 videos and readings). The AL steps allow you to consider in greater detail the complexity associated with acting on that learning.
After fully exploring all learning resources in Module, write a one to two-page AL paper address:
I. What did you learn from Module? (Describe, Explain, Concrete)
II. How did you learn it? (Describe, Explain, Reviewing and Reflecting on the Experience)
III. Why does this learning matter? (Analyze, Synthesize, Concluding and Learning from the Experience)
IV. What will you do in light of this learning? (Active experimentation or trying the knowledge in other situations, Apply to personal, academic, civic)
