Question: After reading Rothenberg's Part 4 From Discrimination to Equality, Equity, or Parity In Module 4, we want to start thinking about ways towards social equity or parity. So, how do we get there? What does it take to level the playing field? What does it take for an eradication of discriminatory actions and systems? Before we can work towards eradication, we must know and understand the systems at play. We must understand how some allow their bias to lead to discriminatory actions. How are you understanding racism, sexism, heterosexism, and classism as individualized frames as well as intersectional frames?
In the first reading, please be sure to understand the differenced between individualized attitudes and actions as well as structural discrimination. What are the systems of advantage and disadvantage that the authors are discussing? How are you interpreting their arguments? How are the arguments about voting policies favorable to some and not others? What does this look like in Georgia? The third selection aligns with the film 13th...if you haven't watched it, I would encourage you to do so. What does it mean to criminalize groups of individuals for particular actions? Is there a bias within this? Why or why not? As you progress through the readings, please take into consideration the intersectionalities that are at play.
The readings for this week are intense. However, it all leads to the point of counter...how is a inclusive society truely created? How do we reach a society that is truly fair? Or is that utopia too far gone? Whether it is or isn't, what will be your mark on society?
