The excavated material is to be hauled away and used as compacted fill material on another site adjacent to the current site. Assuming that a soil analysis shows that the soil weighs 2,800 lbs/ cubic yards (CY), 2,000 lbs/CY, and 3,500 lbs/CY in its natural, excavated, and compacted states, respectively, and the excavated soil is to be hauled away using 12 CY dump trucks, answer the following questions:

What is the loose volume of the soil in loose cubic yards (LCY) to be hauled away?

How many truckloads will be involved in hauling the material to the fill site?

What will be the compacted volume of the soil in CY at the fill site?

In addition to performing the cut-and-fill operations, the contractor needs to excavate the entire building footprint to a depth of 8 feet for a basement construction made of concrete masonry perimeter walls supported by 2'-0" X 0'-10" continuous strip footings. The bottom of the elevation for the footings is 3'-0" below the finish grade of the basement excavation.

Discuss the alternative equipment you would use for each of the following:

Cut-and-fill operations for the site

Basement excavation

Footing excavation
