Assignment Task: Track Your Water

For this assignment, you will track your water usage in all aspects of your life over a 24-hour period. You need to account for every single drop!

This means:

Measuring all the water you drink
Measuring all the water used when washing dishes
Measuring all the water used during a shower (measure the time, and then estimate)
Measuring all the water used for each toilet flush (check on your tank and it tells you)
Measuring water used while brushing teeth
Measuring water used for cooking
And so forth...

You will need to make a table or an Excel spreadsheet that documents each use and the amount of water associated with it. Here is an example:

Cooking oatmeal	Breakfast	8 ounces / 1 cup
Flush toilet (3 times)	Used standard 1 gallon/ flush	64 ounces / 1 gallon

By the end of the 24 hours, you will tally up all of the water used. Make sure that your units are standard (either metric or American are OK, just be consistent).

Alongside your table, please submit a short essay (150-200 words) that answers these questions:

1. What were your biggest areas of water use?

2. What time of day did you use the most water?

3. Are there any things you can do to reduce your water use?
