Assignment:
Hypothetical case
Maria is a Clinical Social Work intern at a community clinic that serves low-income people. During her practice, she encounters two significant ethical dilemmas that test her ability to make decisions that respect the ethical and professional competencies of social work. Maria has been working with Juan, a 45-year-old client who struggles with addiction and depression. Juan has shown significant progress, but still needs ongoing support to avoid relapses. A month before her practice ends, Maria receives news that the clinic is facing budget cuts and some services, including the addiction support program, will be discontinued. Maria must decide whether to continue working with Juan until the last day of his practice, knowing that she will not be able to guarantee the continuity of the support he needs, or whether to try to find another solution that will ensure the continuity of the service, even though this may mean that she must quit seeing her client ahead of time.
Critical Essay

- What were the three violations of the competencies of the NASW code of ethics? Quote directly from the code of NASW.
- Indicate the way in which you, as a Social Worker, would resolve these three ethical dilemmas, first as a Generalist (micro, mezzo and macro) and then as a clinical social worker? In the conclusion, contrast both methods to resolve the ethical dilemmas and explain which one you recommend and why.
