American Imperialism

Compare and contrast two of America's imperialist's actions using the information from the chart. As you research these consider the questions listed for each area. How did the actions of the United States in the late 1880s define our reputation with our neighbors? How have past actions impacted current relations? A historical essay contains an introductory paragraph with a thesis statement, body of paragraphs and a conclusion. Your opinion will not be graded, however how you argue your point using historical facts will be. This essay is required to be typed, double spaced, 12 point font with a minimum of two pages and maximum of three complete pages.

Describe the geographic location of each area.  What were their natural resources, specialty products and manpower capabilities?
What were the specific events for the takeover of each area?  Who instigated the imperialist actions and how well were they received?  What type of publicity did each event receive and was it popular?  How was the event portrayed in political cartoons?
What was the perception of Americans?  Did they want to include this area as part of their country and what ultimately happen to this region?  What was the perception of the indigenous populations and were they receptive to American involvement?
Describe the military involvement in each area?
What is the current status of this region?  It is part of the United States today?
