Unit 4 Assignment 1: Annotated Bibliography #4

Instructions

A critical skill for managers is developing high-performance teams. This Assignment will help you connect with literature related to high-performance teams. You will also assess the relevancy, validity, and reliability of that information. The final component of the Assignment will be applying the highperforming team article to teams in your context.

Your Annotated Bibliography should be limited to academic articles and include a review of the author's credibility. Be sure to identify the author's intended audience. Knowing who the author is addressing will be a key part of understanding the author's message. Summarize the article in your own words and critique it. What is fact and what is opinion? How reliable are the findings? Finally, be sure to assess and apply the article to your own leadership practice. How will you apply the article to your leadership practice tomorrow? See the following rubric for details.

For the Unit 4 Annotated Bibliography #4, limit your search to the key terms for Chapter 18. Be sure to utilize the following documents located in Doc Sharing:

Virtual Team Best Practices

Virtual Team Success (DeRosa and Lepsinger, 2010) is based on a 2008 study conducted by the authors involving 48 virtual teams in 16 organizations, spanning several industries. As a result, the book is linked to research and appropriate for graduate studies (details of the study are provided in the appendix). Statistics cited in many of the chapters are taken from this study.

At the same time, the authors have attempted to write the book for practitioners. It is written to be a goto guide for managers and leaders. Each chapter stands alone. You can turn directly to a chapter that addresses an immediate need or interest. Note in the Introduction on page xxvii that there is a quick reference guide for using the book. You can find a challenge or question of interest and turn directly to that chapter.

The book will be used as a text in GM500, GM501, GM502, and GM503. In each of these courses, there will be a Team Assignment in Unit 4. Sections from this book will be linked to the Unit 4 in those courses. The focus of the Assignment will be determined by the assigned unit reading; however, this book will be used as a part of the Unit 4 Team Introduction as a means of providing best practices and support for your virtual team. The book will prove to be a handy reference moving forward. Keep it accessible to quickly reference in the future for issues, or problems, you encounter with subsequent virtual teams.

Team Assignment

Take the "How Do You Like to Work?" inventory on page 595. Each graduate course in the Kaplan University School of Management and Business has at least one Team Assignment. Many students in the school do not like doing these Team Assignments, for some of the reasons outlined in the section "The Dilemma of Teams" on pages 601-602. Chapter 18 is packed with solutions to "The Dilemma of Teams." Think back to your GM500 Unit 4 Team Exercise, or a previous team experience. What were the dilemmas on that team? What, from this chapter, would address that dilemma? Your Assignment this week will be to put together a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, addressed to incoming GM500 students, focusing on positioning them for success with their GM500 Unit 4 Team Assignment. It will be an orientation presentation for incoming GM500 students.

Instructions

For this Assignment, you will prepare a PowerPoint presentation based on Case 14.1. For the purpose of this Assignment, assume that Stan has sought out your consulting group to help him lead his team.

You may choose to utilize this optional guideline.

Criteria

? The presentation should be a minimum of 12 slides, not including the title and reference slides.
