Writing Assignment Discovering Historical Figures

The assignment will be a 2 page (double spaced) writing assignment in Times New Roman, 12 pt, in which the student will discuss why the assigned historical figure was significant to American History. The purpose of this assignment is for students to not only research an important figure, but also think in a more dimensional aspect and look at American History as a whole. Each of the assigned historical figures belonged to a certain movement or important time in history. It is therefore the responsibility of the person to not only place the historical figure in the specific time frame, but also look at the important movement or time in history as a whole, and realize how this person impacted that specific time. In order to do so, I expect each student to answer the following question throughout the extent of their written assignment:

1. What time frame did this person impact?

2. What contribution or important action did this person have on the movement or time frame?

3. Was the person for, or against the actions that were taking place during this time?

4. Was their contribution significant to the movement or time period?

5. What were the consequences of this person's actions?

In answering these questions, I expect each and every student to do their own research. Each student is expected to turn in a bibliography of the sources that they used in researching and completing this paper. The sources used must include at least three secondary sources. Students that use at least one primary source will receive extra points, with 3 sources maximum. In addition, this paper must follow Chicago Style writing, and therefore a cover or title page should accompany the assignment.

Note: Wikipedia is not a viable source and therefore should not be noted as part of their sources.
