Assignment:
Students will conduct an interview with a parent of a child. The student will use the Bio-ecological model to explore the different relationships and experiences of a family. They will interview the parent on their relationship(s) with their parents and cultural background. They will proceed to interview the parent on their relationships and interactions with their child(ren), spouse, and household members. The student will explore with the parent their relationships with other individuals in the community, including their child's early childhood education teacher, community or spiritual leader, work colleagues etc. The student will interview the parent on their experiences in community including the subjects work, utilization of community services and resources, and any early childhood education policy which impact their family (Including but not limited to, cuts to education, transition kindergartens, inclusive and special education services, full day kindergarten, and any county measures, etc.).
Students will then write a 3 to 5 page paper. Points will not be deducted if students write a longer paper. The introduction will include demographic information about the parent and family, and location of the interview. The body of the paper will include components of the interview. Students will also relate course readings and information to their description of the relationships between parents and their child (ren), spouse and other family members. They will describe parent relationships with their child's (ren) childcare providers/teachers. The student will describe how the parent's work, community, and policies impact their family life. Lastly, the student will write a conclusion summing up the interview.
