For this assignment you need to visit the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893, also known as the Chigago's World Fair. First go to the "Welcome Page" at https://xroads.virginia.edu/~ma96/wce/tour.html for an introduction to the Fair .

After reading the introduction click on "Tour" at the bottom of the page to go to the "Official Tour Page."BEFORE you take the tour click on "A History of the Fair" & read how this event came about & how it wound up in Chicago. Then take the Official Tour, parts 1 & 2.

After taking the Tour write a 300-400 word essay "IN YOUR OWN WORDS" giving your impressions of the Fair answering the following questions

  • What was your least favorite building? Why?
  • Which building did you find most interesting? Why?
  • What was your favorite part of the entire Exposition?
  • Chicago won the right to host the Fair over New York City. Do cities compete to host similar events today?
  • What products or ideas introduced at the Fair are still with us today? (The "Legacy" section may help you here.)
