Assignment:

Document This excerpt is from Rudyard Kipling's poem "The White Man's Burden" (1899). It gives another explanation for imperialism.

Take up the white man's burden Send forth the best ye breed Go bind your sons to exile To serve your captives' need; To wait, in heavy harness, On fluttered folk and wild Your new-caught, sullen peoples, Half-devil and half-child.

According to the poem, what was the "white man's burden"?

I think it is this: According to the text in Document 6 the white man's burden was a way to have control over people that was not like the white man which means that would send their men to breed. Yet they would bind sons to exile and serve their captive's needs: and to wait... that those in captivity were wild and crazy born of the half devil and half child which the were savages and because the white man was pure they had to treat the non-whites like animals.
