Question

Sudan and South Sudan used to be one state. However in 2011 a successful vote led to the independence of S. Sudan. What was the underlying reason for the split? It was difficult for the south (South Sudan) to convert the north (Sudan) to Christianity so they had to split. The large Muslim community in the north (Sudan) was antagonizing the Christians in the south (S. Sudan). The north and the south had peaceful relationships but the country was too big to be governed by one leader. The north (Sudan) had more land than the south (S. Sudan) and this resulted in resource conflict.
