Assignment: Public Health The 2009 H1N1 Influenza Pandemic Presentation
You will create original video content, limited to 5-minutes max, to respond to the questions outlined below. You may use a visual aid, such as a ppt or Canva presentation. Limit your slides to 1-slide/minute maximum (fewer slides are fine). You must avoid using your slides as a script, reading directly from the slides, or containing too much text/slide. Links on best practices are below.
Identify an outbreak that has occurred within the past 100 year. The outbreak can be the result of a viral or bacterial pathogen, and the impact on human health can be marginal to extreme. The important factor is to pick an event that is interesting to you!
Describe the event with dates, geographic reach, and provide demographic, social, and economic factors that provide rich detail.
Question A. What was the epidemiological impact of the event you selected? You should reference total cases, deaths, injury or disability. You may also discuss long-term effects such as impacts on economies, governments, or community policies.
Question B. What was the response of the government? Describe the local and state responses, and any federal comparisons that provide context. You may include topics such as restrictions on mobility, recalls, lock downs, investments in research, vaccinations, school or business closures, litigations or criminal charges, and so on.
Question C. Do you agree with the responses described above? What are some reasons why you agree or disagree?
Question D. In addition to your recorded response, please prepare a 1-2 page reflection that highlights key points of your report as well as your own perspective on the event that you selected. Please provide some specific epidemiological or policy examples to support your discussion, and include a references page crediting your sources. This is not to be written like a journal or narrative. Maintain a neutral and objective tone. Although not required, you may also include a few sentences outlining anything new that you may have learned from your peers, during the discussion period.
Question E. For this I want a presentation made along with the 1-2 page reflection report, I also would like a script to speak to make myself a 5 minute max video.
