Assignment:

Native American Student Association (NASA) attend with and exposure to people of differing cultural backgrounds than their own or events that address current social justice issues especially pertaining to diverse groups and populations. The instructor will try to keep you informed of such events throughout the term. Please bring such events to the attention of the class as well.

After person attend write up about reaction paper that addresses the following questions and anything else you consider interesting or informative about the event and your experience there. paper should be word-processed, spelling & grammar checked, and should give a specification of the event (name, place, date).

Description:

What was the nature of the event? What diverse group(s) was featured and what aspect of that group's experience was the focus? Who sponsored the group and who were the primary participants (students, townspeople, etc.)? Does the group also have a website and if so, what did the person find there?

Experience:

What did the person do there? What role did the person play? We could imagine a scale of engagement from "outsider" to "guest" to "participant" to "member" - where were you on that scale? How would your experience have been different if you had played a more active role?

Reflection:

The assignment asks person to go to an event featuring people of differing cultural backgrounds than persons - how did that feel? Did it give person anything to think about? What did the person find most interesting about the experience?
