Discussion Board Forum 1 - Part A

Choose 1 of the research questions originally proposed in Module/Week 2. Construct 5 interview questions that would be used to gather information about the research question.

The interview questions must not be descriptive of the person being interviewed; rather, the questions must be geared towards providing insight into the interviewee's experiences, observations, and/or relationships with regard to the question being researched. When satisfied with your questions, submit them in the Discussion Board Forum, along with the research question chosen.

Finally, indicate if interviewing would be an acceptable tool for your proposed research question from Projects C and D.

Discussion Board Forum 1 - Part B

Critique the questions submitted by at least 3 of your classmates. The critiques must show areas of potential improvement, areas that were unclear (e.g., poor or confusing wording), and potential other questions that could be asked (you must provide at least 2 potential other questions per classmate reply). Positive comments must also be expressed.

This exercise is not meant to be used as a means for "bashing" your classmates' work; rather, it is meant to be used as an opportunity for everyone to learn from each other (i.e., act as if you are the instructor, as this is the highest level of learning).

Both parts of this assignment are due by the end of this module. As the ability to complete this assignment hinges on the participation of your fellow learners, please make an effort to complete Part A as early in the week as possible. This will give others ample time to give you quality feedback in the forum.

RESEARCH QUESTION; NON PROFIT/QUASI- GOVERNMANTAL ADOPTION OF ERM

Research Question: What factors have non-profit and quasi-governmental institutions in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area used in deciding how to adopt a formal enterprise risk management (ERM) system?

I am using a grounded theory approach to the research question since I am trying to discover the factors that affect how ERM was adopted and to develop a generalized understanding of those factors through constant comparison. According to Creswell and Poth (2018) interviews are a key part of data gathering as part of this approach.

This makes sense since the goal of grounded theory studies is to develop a theory about, or describe a process around, something that has not previously been defined and therefore requires a great deal of experiential information in order to obtain the appropriate amount of definition.

Some potential interview questions could include:

1. What was the impetus for your organization to adopt ERM?

2. How did you approach aligning ERM with the organization's vision, mission, and strategic goals and objectives?

3. How would you characterize the ERM framework used in guiding your adoption of ERM?

4. What was the role of ethics and standards of conduct in deciding how you adopted ERM?

5. What external stakeholders did you consider, and how were their needs identified and addressed, in deciding how the organization adopted ERM?
