Question: Students woke up Monday morning to find that all the toothbrushes on campus have disappeared. People are walking around in shock, not knowing what to do. They cannot start the day without their daily brushing. Homeland Security has been brought in to investigate. Meanwhile all the smiles at UTK have vanished as folks do not want to show their dirty teeth.

Out of the gloom of the situation, The Industrial and Systems Engineering group has stepped up and said "we can save the day."

The team was able to resurrect equipment that was capable of making toothbrushes. hey found a molding machine to make the handles and one, staple-set bristling machine. They could not find packaging equipment, but felt that the toothbrushes could be manually packed. One team focused on the brush design. They decided to keep the design simple and specified the brush head to have 56 tuff of bristles.

Another team has determined that he molding machine will produce 10 brush blanks every 35 seconds when running at 100% efficiency.with no scrap loss. The bristling machine will make 896 tuff per minute when running at 100% efficiency with no scrap loss. The team estimated hat one person could pack 6 toothbrushes per minute. the team felt that since the school was shut down, there was an unlimited supply of student labor to pack the toothbrushes.
